That horses are more than riding-partners is nothing new to Kia. She has always felt their special power.

As a child, Kia had a disease in one of her hips, instead of playing with other children she turned to the animals in her surroundings.

Horses became very important early in her life. She went through a tough time as a teenager, she was abused and there were alcohol addiction-related problems in her family. At the age of sixteen, she left home and school, moved to a farm and started developing her skills of working with horses. For twenty years she was married and lived on a farm with dairy cows. When her three oldest kids moved out, she started to work as a foster parent and found how much her horses were helping her in the work with the youths. Kia noted the way the horses gave instant reflections on their emotions and helped the youths to feel and understand their emotions.

In 2001 Kia started giving clinics, teaching horse owners how to communicate with their horses by working them from the ground, loose or in halter and rope. Kia has participated in several courses in KBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy), DBT (Dialectic Behavior Therapy) and mindfulness and started a business she named ESMH (Emotionell Spegling Med Häst). For many years Kia has searched an education that would develop her skills in her work helping youths with the help of horses. She found the FEEL program and felt it was appropriate for her and her horses.
