Susan’s passion for horses spans more than four decades. Her equine experiences include both personal and professional endeavours. She first became hooked while taking a riding lesson as a young girl and eventually her love of horses led to the discovery of her soul’s purpose which involved partnering with horses to assist in the personal growth and development of others.
Grateful for the opportunity to work with horses in a variety of environments, Susan recounts the many wonderful hours spent hanging around the barn after her riding lessons as a young girl, her time spent at a breeding operation learning to handle mares, foals and stallions, her volunteer role assisting students in a therapeutic riding program and finally her role as a FEEL facilitator.
Susan’s determination to make a better life for herself and her two young sons motivated her to pursue a Psychology degree at McMaster University. After graduation, Susan was offered the opportunity to help others while working in the Career Counselling office at McMaster. Years later, the desire to understand the mind body connection as well as her keen interest in personal development, led her down another path. This path led to the completion of her Reiki 1 certification. This work seemed to fit perfectly with Susan’s own healing journey and rekindled her desire to help others who were embarking on a similar journey.
Sometime later, Susan began to investigate new career opportunities and a timely encounter with a friend once again led her back to the horses. This chance encounter made her question whether it might be possible to find her soul’s purpose in the healing potential of the horse human bond. Linda Kohonav’s work captivated Susan’s heart and research for a FEEL training program began in earnest. Contacting Wendy at Horse Spirit Connections was the obvious next step. It wasn’t long before Susan was accepted into their FEEL certification program and anxiously awaiting the start date. Susan has now graduated and is living the dream of merging her love of horses with the desire to improve the lives of others, through empowering women, in particular trauma survivors.
