FEEL Standards and Ethics

1. The FEEL graduate respects the rights and dignity of all individuals

2. The FEEL graduate honours the well being of the horse in all aspects

3. The FEEL graduate creates and holds a safe and sacred space of possibility while engaged in FEEL activities

4. The FEEL graduate uses integrity and sound judgment in the service of all human and equine participants

5. The FEEL graduate is open to enhance their knowledge and experience in this new modality of healing

6. The FEEL graduate maintains clear and honest business practices

1. The FEEL graduate respects the rights and dignity of all individuals

1.1 The FEEL graduate is responsive to and mutually supportive of participants, co-facilitators and support staff

1.2 The FEEL graduate respects the unique nature of each individual and does not discriminate based on age, gender, race, nationality, religion, ethnic, social or economic status, sexual orientation, health condition or disability

1.3 The FEEL graduate promotes a holistic awareness of body, heart, mind, and spirit in FEEL activities

1.4 The FEEL graduate maintains the professional confidence of any information provided by participants, volunteers, and staff and adheres to all legal requirements in regards to release of information and record keeping

1.5 The FEEL graduate avoids dual relationships when possible which may create a conflict of interest. In situations where this is unavoidable, the FEEL graduate is responsible for setting clear, appropriate and sensitive boundaries

1.6 The FEEL graduate does not invite or allow any sexual contact with participants

1.7 The FEEL graduate understands it is not appropriate to have close family members or close friends as participants

1.8 The FEEL graduate understands the sensitive nature of physical touch and uses it with caution

2. The FEEL graduate honours the well being of the horse in all aspects

2.1 The FEEL graduate honours the horse as a sentient being and provides an opportunity for ‘choice’ when appropriate

2.2 The FEEL graduate provides a safe and healing environment for the horse(s), understanding the horse’s need for socialization, play, turnout, time off and retirement

2.3 The FEEL graduate understands the emotional needs of the horse as they are a valued partner and co-facilitator and recognizes the horse is impacted by the inner emotional state of the people they are working with

2.4 The FEEL graduate provides the appropriate ongoing physical care necessary for the well being of the horse(s)

2.5 The FEEL graduate recognizes and respects the individual character, nature and physical attributes of each horse

2.6 The FEEL graduate supports safe and respectful human and equine interactions, placing horses in activities suited to their temperament, physical ability, and unique gifts

2.7 The FEEL graduate recognizes the horse has a need and a right to respond spontaneously and safely when expressing their feelings and opinions

3. The FEEL graduate creates and holds a safe and sacred space of possibility while engaged in FEEL activities

3.1 The FEEL graduate respects the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual autonomy of their participants. They listen to their feedback and provide a safe container for their personal processes to unfold

3.2 The FEEL graduate creates an authentic community aligning with the nine essential skills of authentic community building as laid out in their training

3.3 The FEEL graduate learns from mistakes, without blaming, judging or rejecting themselves and/or others

3.4 The FEEL graduate is compassionate and adaptable in response to what emerges moment by moment in the program/session

3.5 The FEEL graduate works with a trained co-facilitator when engaging with more than two people

3.6 The FEEL graduate acknowledges they are in the position of role model for their participants and embody a grounded, respectful leadership style

3.7 The FEEL graduate will maintain their CPR accreditation

4.The FEEL graduate uses integrity and sound judgment in the service of all human and equine participants

4.1 The FEEL graduate accurately represents their level of expertise, experience, education, and actual practice, and provides service only to those individuals they can competently serve in the human and equine field (scope of practice)

4.2 The FEEL graduate agrees NOT to use any mood altering substances while actively engaged with participants

4.3 The FEEL graduate provides referrals to participants who require follow-up or support from local community resources for mental health issues

4.4 The FEEL graduate seeks appropriate professional assistance for their own personal problems or conflicts that may impair their professional judgment and endanger either the participants or the horses

4.5 The FEEL graduate demonstrates objectivity and fairness in all their interactions with participants

5.The FEEL graduate is open to enhance their knowledge and experience in this new modality of healing

5.1 The FEEL graduate engages in continued personal growth, continuing relevant education and skill development

5.2 The FEEL graduate is willing to learn new and better ways to honour people and horses

6.The FEEL graduate maintains clear and honest business practices

6.1 The FEEL graduate engages in sound business, employment, and administrative practices

6.2 The FEEL graduate negotiates and clarifies the fee structure and payment policy with their client prior to the initiation of service

6.3 Horse Spirit Connections and the FEEL Alumni Association establish a recommended fee structure, while recognizing those FEEL Graduates with specialized qualifications may charge a higher fee and those in economically challenged areas may need to charge a lower fee. The intention is to set a universal standard recognizing the value of this work.

6.4 The FEEL graduate is consistent with their rates within a select audience i.e. corporate, personal, EFP etc.

6.5 The FEEL graduate is mindful of copyright infringement and does not change or alter the FEEL materials when they are presenting them in their workshops or client sessions. For example the Emotional Message Chart can not be altered in any way from its original format

6.6 The FEEL graduate agrees that only Horse Spirit Connections Trainers can certify FEEL Facilitators or FEEL Partners

6.7 The FEEL graduate does not use, copy, or distribute FEEL training materials for the purpose of training others without the prior written consent from the authors involved in order to maintain the integrity of Horse Spirit Connections
